Martin George, born 1993 in Sydney, is a Melbourne-based artist. He graduated from RMIT University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons). He has been awarded a residency at Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles in 2017.
George’s paintings are invested in characteristics of early abstraction, the monochrome, the grand-abstract-gesture, and the intimacy of the colour-field. Kitsch and decorative qualities are dispersed across the work with the use of gesture and material choice. An ironic lightheartedness is deployed through poor abstraction and banal image structure.
